Review
I've done some testing with the boat and I have to say I am very happy with the results.
I was worried that the single motor would not be powerful enough but it seems absolutely fine.
I was woried that the rudder system would not allow me to turn the boat sharply but I am happy to say that with a bit of three point turning I can turn it on a sixpence.
Bouyancy is extactly how I intended it. Anyone doing their own project should understand that 1Kg of baitboat will displace 1Ltr of lake water so if you have a good idea of how much your boat will weigh (don't forget the battery which is significant) you know how much volume cm2 you need to build into the hull(s).
I have also since added some LED lights on the front and back and I'm very happy with the bait release mechanism also.
I am away in early June 2014 for a week in France and I will report back after this proper test.
What About Costs?
Will do my best to add up the overall costs of this project and will put a full breakdown here when I have compiled the list. Some of the materials I had already so didn't have to buy them. Also, with the exception of the electronics I have plenty of materials left. My estimate is that it will come out around the £150 mark if I had bought everything. This may sound quite a bit but you won't be buying this stuff in one go. £20 or £30 here and ther is perhaps slightly easier to get passed the prying eyes of the missus. When you compare it to commercially available bait boats which start at £400 and go over £1000 I think it represents good value for money. Costs could be cut in a number of areas, cheaper and less powerful batteries would be an option, also a less powerful charger.
